What personal data we collect and why we collect it

IP Addresses

Every computer connected to the Internet is given a domain name and a set of numbers that serve as that computer’s “Internet Protocol” IP address. When a visitor requests a page from any Web site within the Poly in Place Network, our Web servers automatically recognize that visitor’s domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed our site. We use this information to examine our traffic in aggregate and to investigate misuse of the Poly in Place Network, its users, or to cooperate with law enforcement. We do not collect and evaluate this information for specific individuals. Our Web servers do not record email addresses of the visitors unless email addresses are explicitly shared with us.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

All media on this website is filtered and shared by our team at Poly in Place or held in moderation until it is approved. However, user-submitted media may be subject to other visitors to the website downloading and extracting any location data from those on the website. Therefore we highly suggest you scrub name and location data out of your media files before sharing with us.
